Print to PDF Error: macOS Monterey and Ventura

NOTE:  This issue is resolved in Connected 11.0


Operating System: 

macOS Monterey 12.3 or greater (no other operating systems affected)

macOS Ventura 13.0


The following article describes an issue and resolution for users of macOS Monterey 12.3 or greater.  This issue is not present in macOS Big Sur 11.x or earlier versions of macOS Monterey.


macOS Monterey 12.3 or greater:



When printing a PDF in macOS Monterey 12.3 or greater, the following errors may appear, depending on the settings in Connected.   NOTE:  PDF generation can be done by saving a PDF file, sending to Preview (which is a PDF), or E-mail with an attachment.

These errors will cause all printing to be blocked until Connected is quit and re-opened again.  Printing to Screen/Printer will function normally, until a PDF is attempted.


To resolve this issue, a simple setting is altered in the Connected 10.3.5 Preferences.


1: Select "Preferences" from the "Connected 10.3.5" menu.



2: Select the "Use native Mac OS PDF generation", as shown below.


NOTE:  This setting should only be selected if macOS 12.3 or greater is used.




General Notes:

-Connected 10.3.5x is the only version compatible with macOS Monterey

-enabling the setting for macOS PDF Generation will disable the ability to encrypt reports when sending to file
